Changing perspective.
Underwater, the view of a landscape changes. The surface becomes a boundary between two very different spaces. What interests me in experiences like this is getting to know a place in more than one way.
Kaikōura: ten degrees and dolphins.
A particularly vivid experience is snorkelling with dolphins near Kaikōura in New Zealand. My 2019 post describes the open sea and a water temperature of around ten degrees Celsius. The archive shows the animals underwater and me in a wetsuit aboard the boat.
The Caribbean and Cape Town.
My travel history includes diving in the Caribbean and near Cape Town. These are among the places I mention on my professional profile. The memories connect water, movement and getting to know unfamiliar surroundings.
Part of a wider interest in travel.
For me, diving sits alongside sailing, skydiving and travelling overland. Each changes what I notice about a place. The travel page brings together more routes and regions from my life.
